Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS5/6 Policy Officer on a contract for 12 months with potential extension of 12 Months.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work to priorities, meet milestones and deliver high quality products.
  • Prepare and deliver quality written material, including Ministerial briefs, correspondence and Question Time Briefs within short timeframes.
  • Engage constructively with stakeholders across the department, other government agencies and industry.
  • Undertake economic and desktop data analysis, conduct research and analysis to identify and connect emerging trends in resources exports to inform policy advice.
  • Assisting with planning and consultation with industry, and government, and contribute to briefing for Senior Executives and the Minister on emerging issues.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience developing briefing material and a working knowledge of government processes, including ministerial briefing, correspondence, Question Time Briefs and Senate Estimates preparation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Developed analytical and problem-solving skills, and experience in providing policy advice.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, and experience balancing priorities to tight timeframes while delivering quality materials to Senior Executives.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex information succinctly and produce quality written materials.
  • Adaptable, have initiative and sound judgement and decision-making capabilities.
  • Some awareness of Australia's resources commodities and markets, and the resources sector generals would be valuable, but not essential.
  • Displays personal drive and integrity by acting professionally and adhering to the APS values and Code of Conduct.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline security clearance.
