Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Policy Officer on a contract for 3 months with potential extension Of 4 Weeks.

Position Overview

A Policy Officer at the APS 6 Level is required to work on international education policy challenges and high-profile initiatives that support the sustainable development of Australia's international education sector, including in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Undertaking research and analysis on approaches by countries other than Australia to attract international students
  • Preparing briefings and other policy documents to support Australia's bilateral engagement with the UK, Europe and New Zealand
  • Assist with the adjustment of policy settings around student protections
  • Monitor and provide input to new free trade agreements currently under development to ensure Australia's reputation as a quality provider of education and an attractive study destination is protected
  • Provide input into the new Australian Strategy for International Education currently under development

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong writing skills, with the ability to draw on a range of materials to prepare policy advice and briefings.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, including being able to make decisions and recommendations on how to progress projects.
  • Professional stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • An ability to manage high workload and competing priorities.
  • Personal attributes of being an open communicator with supervisor, director, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to keep track of workflow, follow-up action items, etc

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline security clearance.
