Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a APS5/6/EL1 Policy and Project Manager on a contract for 8 months.

About the Role:

Multiple positions are available within the Branch at APS 5/6 to EL1 level. These positions are spread across three teams:

  • Two negotiation teams focusing on liaison, analysis and briefing;
  • A centralised policy and project management team.

What we are looking for:

This is a fast pace environment and the successful candidates will need to be able to work with a level of independence in small teams, with ability to adapt quickly to changing needs and priorities of the work.

For the policy and project management team, we are particularly looking for an EL1 or APS 6 project manager to be responsible for preparing and updating project plans in accordance with the department's project management framework and to lead a small secretariat that supports two SES-level committees as part of the governance arrangements for the branch's work.

Skills & Experience:

For the negotiation teams, the list below outlines the range of job duties and relevant skills needed for the range of roles:

  • Liaison and negotiation with other jurisdictions and organisations including an ability to build working relationships and undertake stakeholder engagement.
  • Critical thinking and problem solving, with an ability to apply and interpret legislation.
  • An understanding of and/or experience in developing strategic policy and advice.
  • Experience in briefing Government.
  • High level written and verbal communication skills
  • EL1 only:
    • Experience managing small teams in a dynamic work environment.
    • An ability to lead staff to analyse data with a variety of tools to research and solve organisational issues and identify insights to support organisational outcomes.

Desirable qualifications:

  • For negotiation positions, a background in law/regulation and stakeholder negotiations is desirable.
  • For the project manager position, a background in project management and relevant project management qualifications is desirable.
  • For all positions, an understanding of the EPBC Act and/or environmental legislation is desirable and an understanding of environmental science, and/or natural resource management would be an advantage

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline security clearance.
