A Government department in Parramatta is hiring A Policy and Planning Manager to lead, plan and manage policy projects and activities.
The Principal Policy Officer manages the development and delivery of policy projects to achieve the Government's planning system objectives. The role also prepares and provides high level policy advice regarding current and emerging statutory planning issues to guide policy development.
You will need to be motivated and a self-starter who can work with limited supervision whilst leading a complex project.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage policy projects and undertake more complex planning policy activities to ensure the team meets Government policy and Department work program commitments in relation to allocated policy development and implementation
  • Research, analyse and evaluate complex, sensitive or emerging policy issues to address and respond to issues quickly and to formulate, recommend and develop innovative policy options to ensure the Department can respond in a broader policy context
  • Prepare high quality evidence-based policy and practice advice and provide specialist input to support consistent quality policy development and implementation, and informed decision making
  • Build partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to enhance engagement, consultation and negotiation on policy related work
  • Support the Director in the development and implementation of policy planning and frameworks to assist the strategic directions of the Division
  • Review correspondence, briefing notes and reports in a timely manner for the approval of the Director to respond to community, Executive and Ministerial requests
  • Initiate and manage work performed by external contractors and consultants, where projects require use of external expertise, to achieve project objectives

  • Key requirements:
  • Able to develop sound and evidenced based policy options
  • Can collaborate effectively with stakeholders
  • Can work with in a team environment as well as on their own
  • Has excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Can project manage and meet regular reporting deadlines
  • Has a track record of delivery
  • Ideally has experience with the ISEPP and infrastructure policy planning.

This position will start out on an 8 month contract with the view to extend.
