Our client is seeking to engage a Payroll Officer on a contract for 3 months with potential extension or view to permanency.

Position Overview

Our client owns and operates thoroughbred racing, events and hospitality venues across Sydney, Australia. They primarily operates out of their offices at Randwick Racecourse and employs approximately 270 full-time staff and over 2,000 casual staff across the five venues. The venues include Randwick, Rosehill Gardens, Canterbury Park, Warwick Farm and the Rosehill Bowling Club.

With the success and continual growth of our client, they have an exciting 3 month opportunity (with the possibility of this role becoming permanent or extension) for a Payroll Officer to join their Payroll Team on a casual basis 3 days per week (with some flexibility on days/hours depending on candidate availability, likely Monday/Tuesday and choice of other 2 days). Immediate start desirable. The hours are either 8 AM to 4 PM or 9 AM to 5PM.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this will be a varied role seeing you amongst a small, friendly and committed payroll team. We know working in payroll means meeting strict deadlines and delivering high quality outputs. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting with the processing of the weekly pay run for approximately 2000 employees
  • Distributing payslips in email or hard copy form
  • Processing leave forms
  • Processing documentation for external agencies as required e.g. Centrelink and Work Cover
  • Assisting with the preparation of payroll reports
  • Responding to general payroll queries from employees and Managers
  • Reviewing timesheets and identifying any errors or anomalies
  • Drafting a range of letters e.g. employment variations, jury duty exemption, statement of service, confirmation of employment
  • Supporting with any other ad-hoc administrative duties including mailing, filing, onboarding pack creation
  • Ability to work additional hours during periods of leave cover or high demand activity

Our Ideal candidate will have:

  • At least 3 years' demonstrated experience in a payroll administrator/officer role with over 1000 employees
  • Experience with Chris21 payroll software (desirable)
  • Interpretation and application of Workplace Agreements and Modern Awards
  • Strong data entry skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Team player with strong communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy with limited need for rework
  • Can handle sensitive and confidential information in a professional way
