Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Parliamentary officer on a contract for 2 months.

Position Overview

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Support your team to coordinate officials’ engagement in the parliamentary process, including question time briefs, appearances at senate estimates and committee hearings, parliamentary inquiry submissions and Questions on Notice.
  • Coordinate timely and high-quality input from across the Bureau to develop briefings to support the Minister, and information requests from Commonwealth agencies.
  • Provide drafting advice and coordinate ministerial correspondence and ministerial submissions in accordance with Bureau and Ministerial requirements.
  • Scan and monitor Parliament through Hansard and committee pages.
  • Undertake environmental scanning, research or data collection as needed to inform briefs or other processes.
  • Utilise knowledge of the Bureau's unique operating context, and its connectivity with emergency management to provide advice on intergovernmental climate reporting.
  • Support the preparation of briefs for the Minister leading up to and during high impact events such as severe weather.
  • Comply with all Bureau work, health and safety policies and procedures, and take reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of employees, contractors and visitors who may be affected by your conduct.

Knowledge and Skills Required:
  • Understanding of Australian government and Parliamentary processes. A track record in parliamentary or government relations roles in the Australian Public Service will be highly regarded.
  • Experience working in a scientific/technical environment and in working with complex and sensitive information.
  • A degree or diploma of an Australian educational institution, or a comparable overseas qualification, in public relations, communications or political science; OR other comparable qualifications, which are appropriate to the duties.

Eligibility:
  • Successful applicants are required to obtain and maintain Baseline Security Clearance at a minimum and NV1 Security Clearance where required by the Bureau, and
  • have an up-to-date police check with no qualifications or disclosable outcomes.
