Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Natural Hazard Risk Analyst on a contract for 7 months with potential extension.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Natural Hazard Risk Analyst will work in a multidisciplinary, cross agency team to develop and/or implement methodologies to understand the people, places and critical infrastructure in Australia that are exposed and vulnerable to climate and natural hazards. The Analyst may be required to undertake analysis to support short term relief and recovery efforts in response to specific natural disaster events, as well as to support longer term risk reduction efforts.
The objective of the service is to bring together data on Australia's built, natural, social and economic environments with information on climate and natural hazards to develop a national picture of exposure, vulnerability and risk of natural hazards. To support this, the Natural Hazard Risk Analyst will work with the Team Manager and other stakeholders to consolidate best available knowledge on natural hazards and apply this to Australia's built, economic, natural and social environments.

- Tropical cyclone
- Severe storms
- Bushfire.
The position requires strong problem solving and communication skills the ability to work independently and within a project team. Key activities the Natural Hazard Risk Analyst will be to: - Coordinate expertise from both the agency's and external stakeholders to consolidate best available science and intelligence on climate and natural hazard risks.
- Formalise and strengthen processes and methods to quickly source and deliver high-quality data/intelligence with a focus on exposure and vulnerability to, and impacts and consequences of, climate and natural hazards.
- Identifying existing capabilities, managing access to tools and approaches and identifying areas for improvement to support relief and recovery needs. For example, coordinating development of exposure, vulnerability and impact scenarios and validating against actual event footprints and impact analyses.
- Appropriately tracking and filing output and advice and providing support for during and post-event data collection activities and advice.
- Evaluate systems, processes and methods and undertake continuous improvement.
Mandatory Requirements:
The candidate must have: - Tertiary qualifications relating to one or more of the below disciplines:
1. Science (Natural, Physical, Social or Behavioral)
2. Climate and/or Environmental Policy
3. Geography and Spatial Analysis
4. Engineering
5. Risk Management
6. Economics - Demonstrated capability in developing processes to solve complex problems
- Experience in data analysis and exploration
- Excellent science communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and disciplined work approach
- Ability to adapt to changing demands and priorities
Security Requirements: - Applicants must be eligible to obtain and maintain Baseline Security Clearance at a minimum and NV1 Security Clearance where required by the agency.
