Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS5 Ministerial and Parliamentary Officer on a contract until May 2022, with potential extension.

Position Overview

The Ministerial Coordination Section (MCS) manages formal and informal Ministerial Communication, requests and activity. The section is responsible for coordinating formal ministerial requests such as Ministerial Correspondence, Briefs and Submissions and supporting informal ministerial activity, including provider or participant specific assistance and advice on policy or key issues. MCS is responsible for managing the relationship between the Minister's Office and the client and key stakeholders. MCS ensures the client provides consistent, accurate and responsive information to the Minister and his Office and client's Executives, to build confidence in the client with both the Minister and the Australian public.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Ministerial Support Officers play an important role in managing the client's relationship with the Parliament, ministerial offices, the Department of Social Services, other Commonwealth agencies and by ensuring that:

  • The client meets its obligations in relation to the parliamentary committee process.
  • Ministerial processes are efficient and effective;
  • Ministerial documents are fit-for-purpose and comply with the minimum quality standard required for ministerial consideration; and
  • staff are aware of and are meeting ministerial expectations;
  • Ministerial Support Officers working in the Ministerial Coordination Section will undertake the development of requests for information, correspondence, background briefings, talking points and constituent queries.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Administration and coordination experience in a Commonwealth environment required and/or experience in working within a Ministerial and Parliamentary Section.
  • Proofing and editing skills, with the ability to interpret content and assess if content is fit for purpose.
  • Experience in using and administering parliamentary document management systems.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal, time management and communication skills.
