About the role
We are partnering with a WA global industry leader in bauxite, alumina and aluminium products, to secure the services of an experienced Mining Engineer to join their Short Term Planning Team at one of their bauxite mines in the beautiful Peel region. The STP Mining Engineer provides detailed planning and technical input to assist in delivering the mine's annual (budget) and 36-month business plans. This is achieved through preparation of mining plans that set appropriate safe physical and performance targets that maximise operating efficiencies and quality (grade) outcomes through the provision best practise mining engineering services and support to the mine.

Key responsibilities will include Mine Road Design, Pit Design, Mine Scheduling and reconciliation. Reporting to and working with the Short Term Mining Engineer on various projects aligned to the following areas of work:

a. Provide detailed daily to 12 weekly mine planning services to the Production Department to meet annual and other strategic long term mine/business plans.
b. Provide the Production Department with key physical and quality (grade) targets, aligned to longer term plans, to ensure the business can meet production targets.
c. Prepare detailed mining designs that facilitate safe and efficient delivery of mining, development and rehabilitation activities.
d. Undertake reconciliation activities, through interrogation of mining surfaces, geological models and crushing/sample plant data to feedback into the mining process and improve outcomes.
e. Prepare short-term mine schedules that align with longer term objectives and communicate these to relevant stakeholders including the Production crews and Ancillary support teams.
f. Undertake detailed reconciliation activities including spatial compliance and performance metrics and report these outcomes in both written and verbal presentations.

This assignment will cover a period of 6 months, on a Monday - Friday roster on a 38 hour week, with possibility of extension at the conclusion of the contract.

To be successful in this role, you will require the following:

  • Bachelor of Engineering - Mining or Civil Engineering
  • 3+ years of open pit mine design experience - preferably 3D in rehabilitation design
  • 2+ years experience on-site in mining environment
  • Experience with using CAD packages such as Minesight (MinePlan) and Surpac
  • Provide a current National Police Clearance or be willing to obtain one
  • Provide a current Drivers Licence
