Our client is a globally diversified mining and metals company. They produce bauxite, alumina, aluminum, energy and metallurgical coal, manganese, nickel, silver, lead and zinc at their operations in Australia, Southern Africa and South America.

GEMCO is one of the world's largest manganese mining and concentrating operations located on Groote Eylandt in the Northern Territory, accounting for over 20% of the worlds' manganese ore production. GEMCO controls and operates all aspects of mining, processing, logistics and shipping on Groote Eylandt.

About the role

Opportunity for a motivated person to join GEMCO and bring their mid-term planning knowledge to the team. You will need to understand the Life of Operations Plan and 2 Year Budget Plan and then translate into more detailed designs and execution strategies at GEMCO.

  • To engage Production Planning and Production Mining stakeholder feedback input into designs and then using sound engineering judgement and experience develop a detailed production plan.
  • Provide clear guidance for Production Planning stakeholders on designs, infrastructure requirements and execution strategy to ensure the short-term plan can be executed in accordance with the budget and long-term plan
  • Works safely within the South 32 Care Strategy including establishing and maintaining an interdependent safety culture within the team including the delivery of improvements in safety performance.

    Success will look like well-defined and detailed execution strategies that enable the short-term planning and scheduling engineers, along with Mining Operations teams, to execute the weekly and monthly plan in accordance with the budget.

    GEMCO is a one-hour flight from Darwin and a one hour 20-minute flight from Cairns. GEMCO's facilities include an indoor gym, beachside workout area, swimming pool, golf course, tennis and squash courts, sports oval and scenic walking track.

    About you
  • Degree in Mining Engineering (AusIMM qualification highly regarded)
  • Proven experience within a similar role within the mining industry
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of relevant current Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental legislation
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of Exploration Geology
  • Proficiency in software such as Vulcan, Deswik, Arcgis, Xpac and Xact will be highly regarded
