Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a MO2 Medical Officer on a contract for 12 months with potential extension.

Position Overview

The medical officer level 2 (MO2) is a key member of the vaccine claim assessment team. The MO2 supports the MO3s and MO4 in the section providing day to day technical advice and expertise. This includes but is not limited to providing assessment and recommendation of COVID-19 vaccine compensation claims.

Duties of position

Specific duties include:

  • Assessing claims against pre-agreed criteria.
  • Applying detailed knowledge of relevant departmental policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Appropriately escalating complexities and/or seeking advice on issues where required.
  • Undertaking analysis and interpretation of evidence and applying judgement in choosing a course of action to manage complex and/or sensitive issues.
  • Where required, contributing to development of new internal procedures and guidance in order to efficiently and effectively undertake claims scheme responsibilities.
  • Managing and organising work in the context of sensitive issues, competing priorities and conflicting interests.
  • Under broad direction, working with autonomy in decision-making and exercising astute judgement and a high level of discretion.
  • Maintaining professional knowledge and skills in accordance with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) registration requirements, and
  • Supervision of medical and non-medical staff

Mandatory qualifications and experience:

  • Eligible candidates must have a medical degree and hold current Australian registration as a medical practitioner.
  • Medical Officers would be expected to have relevant experience in critiquing and interpreting clinical evidence

Desirable:

  • Comprehensive level medical knowledge, regulatory or medicolegal knowledge.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including ability to communicate effectively with staff and members of the public who may not have a technical background.
  • Ability to work flexibly within a team, problem solve, and achieve results within a high-pressured environment.
  • Ability to evaluate ambiguous and incomplete information and make balanced decisions using professional judgement and technical knowledge in the context of a complex and changing environment.
  • Ability to draw on professional knowledge and technical skills to contribute towards workflow management and strategic directions. Demonstrated experience in claims assessment.
  • Relevant post-graduate training in public health, haematology, cardiology, intensive care medicine, emergency/critical care, general practice or forensic/medicolegal medicine

Eligibility Requirements

  • A National Police Certificate (obtained within the last 6 months) will be required for the successful candidate (this is a Department requirement)
  • Australian Citizenship is essential (this is a Department requirement)
