Our client, one of Australia's leading mining equipment manufacturers on the cutting edge of technology seeks an innovative Design Engineer (Mechanical), to be based out of their Eastern suburbs offices. This is a permanent role, working Monday to Friday with occasional visits to sites across WA.

Overview:

The role of the Mining Equipment Design Engineer is to lead product design development from concept to saleable quality product, continuous improvement of existing products based on received performance data and high level technical support to internal and external customers.

Responsibilities of this role include but are certainly not limited to:

  • Using new product development philosophy bring saleable quality products to market using the appropriate standard scope requirement determined by the key role players
  • Plan, manage and oversee project daily functions, schedules, operations and activities relating to the engineering tasks, ensuring responsibility for achieving milestones and communicating to stakeholders
  • Analyse technology and resource needs, including market demand with the aim to plan and deliver projects, on-time and within budget
  • Produce mechanical designs and manufacturing specifications with the use of latest 3D modelling techniques to support the manufacture of ground engaging tool (GET) products or bucket options offering
  • Create drawings for use in product manufacture including fabrication, assembly layout and installation drawings with full dimensional and geometric tollerancing as and when required
  • Carry out FEA simulations as a part of the product verification process to develop optimized design and report findings
  • Develop and carry out test plans to validate the new developed or improved products performance
  • Supervise new product trials within foundries and at mine site and provide reports on findings
  • Liaise with suppliers or foundry personnel with the aim of producing quality production castings

    Skills & Qualifications?
  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical, Mining, Materials Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years industry experience
  • Have a strong understanding of NX CAD (or similar package),Teamcenter (or similar PLM systems) and Ansys FEA (or similar package)
  • Knowledge of and experience with mining, specially underground load and haul application
  • Knowledge of and experience in design and construction of ground engaging tools and buckets (loaders)
  • Knowledge of and experience at foundries practice, methoding, pattern development, casting and post treatment processes (desirable)
  • High level of knowledge in foundry practices and pattern design
  • A good understanding in the field of metallurgy, material specification and testing specifically with steel castings
  • A good understanding in the field of mining and underground application
  • Good commercial understanding of the product development cycle
  • Good customer relations skills
  • Mechanical Design drafting & 3d modelling skills ideally using Siemens NX
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) ideally using Teamcenter
  • Design simulation for stress analysis through FEA ideally using Ansys
  • Good understanding of office based software particularly Microsoft Excel, Word and Project.
  • Design simulation using DEM for simulating particle movement ideally Rocky DEM (desirable)
  • Understanding of new product introduction & market development (desirable)
