About the role
We are partnering with Western Australia's largest and busiest general cargo port., to secure the services of an experienced Engineering Management professional to perform the role of Manager Civil & Marine Assets. This assignment will cover a period of 6 months, on a Monday - Friday roster, with standard 38 to 40 hour per week.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Lead the on-going implementation of the Civil and Marine Asset Management branch plan. Develop and control the annual branch operating budget.
  • Provide technical and strategic support to the GM (General Manager) of AIM Branch on all issues pertaining to civil and marine engineering and asset management, particularly as it relates to civil infrastructure.
  • Ensure that Ports is obtaining value for money from its civil and marine assets management program and that it is appropriately managing associated risks, especially as they relate to personnel safety and statutory compliance.
  • The asset manager is responsible for asset performance, by combining their understanding of the needs of the 'asset owner', the state of the asset and any applicable statutory requirements, to provide advice on what works will need to be done and when, and what the likely financial and operational impact of those works will be.
  • Ensure that Ports' civil and marine assets comply with all statutory technical and safety codes, regulations, codes of practice and other relevant requirements.
  • Provide sound technical advice, liaison and support on issues related to civil and marine engineering design, project scopes, schedules and estimates, as required for the maintenance and planning of current and future port assets.
  • Work with the Drawing Office within the Civil and Marine Asset Management branch, to ensure that drawings are provided for maintenance and capital projects. The Drawing Office is also responsible for the electronic registration (in the Drawing Maintenance Utility system) of drawings provided by engineering consultants and the management of technical records (reports and other technical data).
  • Act as the principal's superintendent or superintendent's representative for contracts, as required.
  • Lead the Civil and Marine Asset Management team in accordance with Fremantle Ports' defining principles and values.

To be successful in this role, you will require the following work experience:

  • Strong asset management skills, with a proven ability to optimise life cycle management strategies and deliver long term value from asset ownership.
  • Strong project and contract management skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of civil engineering design, operation and maintenance practices and standards.
  • Working knowledge of structural design principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters to business leaders.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to develop and implement a branch plan that aligns to the divisional and business strategy.
  • Proven ability to develop a high performing team with elevated levels of employee engagement and enablement.

Ideal candidates must also hold the following prerequisites:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
  • Extensive experience in asset management and maintenance of civil and marine infrastructure.
  • Detailed knowledge of statutory regulations and standards, especially as they relate to safety, applicable to civil infrastructure, and navigational aids and other marine assets.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer, Engineers Australia.
  • Qualifications in asset management
  • Provide a current Drivers Licence
