Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Management Accountant on a on-going or non-ongoing contract for 12 months.

Position Overview

As a Management Accountant, you will support the department by working in a small team that delivers Budgeting and Forecasting, Management Reporting, and advanced analytics to support investment decisions for the agency.

You will be responsible for one or more aspects of this function including to:

  • Provide accounting and policy assistance and training to cost centre and project managers;
  • Increase agency financial literacy by providing support and training on a one-on-one basis to managers and relevant stakeholders on budget and forecast management;
  • Provide support to one or more divisions of the agency in a business partnering role, this would include review and analysis of monthly actuals and project expenditure against budgets and reporting meaningful variance and forecast information on a monthly basis that is timely and accurate;
  • Analyse and contribute to the development of systems, procedures and processes that capture, analyse and interpret financial data, with a view to advancing new approaches;
  • Prepare and co-ordinate the annual
    • external budget requirements including Portfolio Budget Statements, responses to Estimate Memorandum and preparation of New Policy Proposals;
    • internal budget and mid-year reviews;
  • Maintain the agency's master budget;
  • Assist business analysts with project whole-of-life costing;
  • Review and post time sheets for work related to a project;
  • Provide assistance on various projects including cost recovery;
  • Work closely with the Agency's investment pipeline; and
  • Provide support and assistance to other Finance Section team functions as required.



The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to a strong, collaborative team culture. This includes proven commitment to staff development, workplace diversity and work health and safety practices.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills including the ability to prepare professional, accurate and timely specialist advice.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, implement continuous improvement and possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven capacity to take responsibility for delivering routine and non-routine tasks, under broad direction and within tight timeframes and competing priorities through personal drive and commitment.
  • Practical experience and sound knowledge of the Australian Government Financial Framework.
  • Demonstrated experience using financial management information systems and the central budget management system.
  • CPA or CA qualifications would be advantageous
