Koppers Carbon Materials & Chemicals (Koppers) is a fully owned and integrated subsidiary of the global Koppers Inc. company and puts the care and protection of people, the environment and communities above all else. Beneficially reusing coal tar from Australian steelworks, Koppers produces a range of high-quality carbon products for domestic and international customers.

Located at their Mayfield plant, and reporting to the Superintendent Engineering, the successful applicant will work closely with engineering staff & the Work Coordinator. You will have full responsibility for the development and effective implementation of a maintenance plan for all maintenance/capex activities of the process plant:

  • Develop site maintenance schedules and work planning requirements using a computer maintenance management system,
  • drive continuous improvement through efficient resource planning of the workshop maintenance team,
  • actively promote safety & quality consciousness and support the maintenance team in establishment and implementation of best practice and standards,
  • ensure plant and equipment is kept operating at maximum capacity,
  • maximise plant availability to meet requirements of the business/customers,
  • ensure workplace conforms to all safety systems, environmental laws and regulations,
  • work collaboratively with all engineering and plant staff,
  • contribute to proposed plant and equipment changes to promote improved production efficiency and reduction in maintenance costs.

    To succeed in this role, you must have:
  • A trade's qualification with 5 years' experience in the electrical/instrument or mechanical fields in a refinery, mining or similar heavy industry.
  • A degree or similar qualifications, as well as 3-4 years relevant work experience.
  • Extensive tar plant operation experience and a demonstrated knowledge of the operation and maintenance of relevant process equipment.
