Our client AGL Energy are on the lookout for an experienced Health and Safety Advisor to join them on a 6-month contract basis. The incumbent will display behaviours which reflect and actively demonstrate alignment to the AGL Values of: Care in Every Action, Integrity Always, Better Together, Deliver Your Best and Shape Tomorrow.

The role must champion the needs of AGL, challenge any existing preconceptions while facilitating the diverse workforce to achieve outcomes that solve real problems and align with AGL's goals.


Reporting directly to the Health and Safety Manager for Bayswater and Lidell you will assess, plan, communicate and deliver programs, documentation, and direction to reduce risk to people, assets, and the environment by driving and managing the H&S risks associated with Thermal operations workers.

Key accountabilities of this role

  • Provide advice, support, guidance and coaching to personnel to increase H&S awareness and assist in the identification, assessment, and mitigation of risk occurrence of injuries, illness and disease and to increase the level of compliance with organisational requirements and legislative obligations.
  • Support leaders and assist them to engage with and drive change through the business, building health and safety capability within Thermal.
  • Undertake risk management activities including risk assessments, critical control checks, safety observations, safety audits and proactively apply risk management principles and identification of improvement activities to achieve continuous improvement in safety practices and processes to reduce high risk activities and minimise risk to employees.
  • Actively participate in and support the delivery of the Health, Safety and Environmental strategic programs and Group Operations and AGL wide initiatives to ensure the Business Unit meets organisational requirements.
  • Actively engage, motivate, and influence workers and leaders to fulfil their legal obligations relating to Workplace H&S and to meet AGL's behavioural and performance expectations.
  • Develop and distribute relevant communications to inform/ educate the workforce about H&S issues, requirements, and expectations
  • Proactively identify health and safety issues, developing potential solutions and addressing non-compliances identified in a positive, consultative manner.


Qualifications, key skills, and experience required

  • You are an advocate for your client, you're passionate about Work Health and Safety, you value compliance, are risk averse, observant and you have 5+ years' experience in a similar Industrial role - Power Industry experience will be beneficial.
  • You possess a sound knowledge of Work Health & Safety (WHS) Legislation codes and standards and the ability to interpret and apply to real world situations.
  • You have exceptional interpersonal communication skills - both written and verbal- combined with the ability to relate to and influence people at all levels and adapt your approach as required with no bias.
  • You possess a strong attention to detail, an analytical mindset and are adaptable.
  • Demonstrated Facilitation/ Lead of Incident investigations highly desirable.
  • Understanding of risk management principles and their application
  • Intermediate to Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • You have obtained tertiary qualifications in WHS Management, minimum Certificate IV in Occupational Health & Safety is required.
