Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Guidance Officer on a contract for 8 months with potential extension 12 months.

About the Role:

The Guidance Officer is responsible for the provision of guidance to the aviation industry and other staff on the implementation of aviation safety legislation.Guidance may encompass personnel licensing and training, aircraft operations, airworthiness, air navigation, aerodromes, safety management and RPAS. Scope will be determined by the technical skills, qualifications and experience of the officer as assessed in accordance with the department Capability Framework.

The Guidance Officer undertakes a range of moderately complex activities and is responsible for resolving queries from staff and industry participants regarding interpretation of Australian civil aviation legislation and regulatory and compliance processes. The Guidance Officer interrogates knowledge repositories and coordinates responses from specialist areas when necessary to deliver consistent guidance outcomes in accordance with defined service level agreements. The role requires understanding of client's frameworks as they relate to regulated entities, as well as an understanding of the aviation industry sectors, civil aviation legislation hierarchy and its supporting material.

The Guidance Officer works under general direction, within a nationally dispersed team. The Guidance Officer responds to assigned queries through interrogation of a knowledge base, with complex queries reviewed by more senior and technically qualified members of the team as required.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Specified Personnel will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Addressing assigned queries from staff and industry participants that provide consistent, clear, and authoritative information sourced from the knowledge base in accordance with agreed service standards.
  • Managing and facilitating responses from specialist areas when necessary to deliver consistent advice and guidance for external clients and
  • Undertaking research and analysis to support the provision of regulatory guidance to staff and industry participants related to the Civil Aviation regulatory environment in a service delivery environment.
  • Collaborating on knowledge management and content improvement activities through quality assurance and trend analysis activities.
  • Producing guidance query reports to support management information reporting requirements.
  • Proactively engaging with stakeholders through effective and considered communication.
  • Maintaining knowledge of civil aviation legislation, regulations, policies and reporting requirements, Australian and international standards, quality assurance procedures and best practice models.
  • Modelling workplace safety, equity and diversity, participative management and environmental management in the workplace and act in accordance with client's Values and Behaviours.

Mandatory Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated high-level of skills in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

Desirable attributes:

  • Demonstrated stakeholder management skills including the ability to liaise with stakeholders and provide well-considered responses to requests.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills with ability to interpret information and present effective arguments in a timely manner.
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data from a wide variety of digital platforms and simplifying technical information for non-technical audiences as required.
  • Ability to undertake research for projects and tasks associated with project delivery.
  • Ability to prioritise work effectively and achieve outcomes as an individual and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to independently exercise judgement in handling queries.
