A local privately owned Transport company supplying pre mixed concrete and sand products to the Coffs Harbour Shire and surrounding area, are seeking a General Manager.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Directors, the General Manager is responsible for the administrative, financial, legal, operational performance and marketing aspects of the business as well as the formulation and delivery of strategic objectives for the development and growth of the business.

The role requires broad commercial management experience in order to effectively manage all aspects of the business, with a focus on leadership skills, financial acumen, in depth understanding of key business practices and experience in strategic planning and working with a Board of Directors.

You will be required to oversee effective operations supported by a team of four managers, manage the financial systems, compliance and reporting, develop new business including tendering, deliver key infrastructure and other projects, develop and implement strategy, develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and build the business brand.

  • Developing business growth and improvement strategies (short and long term) in collaboration with the Board of Directors
  • Managing the performance and productivity of the three business units
  • Developing new business, including market research, tendering and client liaison
  • Managing key relationships and representing the business at all times
  • Ensuring appropriate and sufficient resources and infrastructure are in place for the current and future needs of the business
  • Managing the financial and administrative systems, accounting processes and financial and statutory reporting
  • Managing continuous improvement of key business systems
  • Managing the appearance and consistency of the business brand and maximising exposure of the organisations profile

Work Capabilities
Selection Criteria Essential:

  • Business related Batchelor qualification/MBA or extensive proven related experience
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning/operational strategy and business management
  • Demonstrated high level experience in financial management
  • Experience in project management, tendering and/or contract management
  • Sound knowledge of and experience in implementing of human resource and OHS legislation and practice and risk management
  • Experience in developing policy procedures and other business systems including IT infrastructure
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to influence
  • Well-developed and confident interpersonal and written communication skills within all levels of business
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills supported by a strong work ethic
  • A high level of attention to detail and focus on quality

Selection Criteria Desirable:

  • Experience in concrete plant management and/or the sand dredging and processing industry
  • An understanding of lean manufacturing principles
