Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Functional Lead - Compliance, Risk and Planning on a contract for 6 months with potential extension.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Business Change Principal, the Functional Lead - Compliance, Risk & Planning, is a key role in the ongoing development, implementation, testing and maintenance of agency's operational compliance risk framework and policies. This role will help continue to shape agency's systems to ensure that future operations decisions and compliance activities are:

  • informed by reliable, relevant data:
  • consistent and proportionate;
  • grounded on a risk-based approach; and
  • are known and understood by our regulated community.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic advice and direction for the ongoing development, implementation, testing and maintenance of agency's operational compliance risk framework and policies.
  • Ensure agency's operational frameworks, polices and processes are aligned to strategic direction and the target state.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to support the compliance risk framework.
  • Liaise widely to ensure that risks and dependencies are identified.
  • Contribute specialist expertise to develop organisational capability and realise the benefits of enhanced risk-based targeting and decision making.
  • Engage and engender support for the target state among both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Guide the organisational change including clear and consistent communication, active engagement practices and celebrating and advertising success.

Pre-requisites required:

People who are successful in this position must have the following pre-requisites:

  • Minimum 8 years' experience designing, implementing, and maintaining a compliance
  • risk framework/model for operational use by a regulator.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or extensive operational experience with a government regulator.
  • Understanding and practical experience in compliance and risk planning in the public sector or maritime industry.
  • Strong understanding of agency's statutory role and functions.
  • Excellent problem solving, critical thinking, and organisational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to take direction, manage forums and work groups and execute a project plan and influence change.
  • Experience in preparing options papers.
  • Strong conceptual thinking and analytical skills.
  • Well-developed written and interpersonal skills including presenting to a variety of different audiences.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering quality and timely outcomes in a complex environment undergoing change.
  • Strong influencing and relationship-building skills; able to identify and work with stakeholders; evidence of network building and driving change through others
  • Work collaboratively and effectively in a small, dynamic team environment
