About the Organisation:

Our client, a large government department, require Foreign Investment Advisors ranging from APS5 to APS6 level within their Foreign Investment Division. The roles will be 6-month initial contracts, with the potential for extension and based in Melbourne.

The Division is responsible for providing policy advice to the government on the foreign investment framework and international developments. It is also responsible for the effective administration of that framework to ensure that foreign investment is consistent with Australia's national interest.

The Foreign Investment Review Unit is the team responsible for assessing a high volume of foreign investment applications and work closely with law firms, investment advisers and investors in reviewing investment proposals.

Key Responsibilities:

Working with a range of stakeholders - including foreign investors and their representatives, Commonwealth and state government agencies and the minister's office.
Liaise with CEOs and senior counsels of foreign investors and vendors on proposed transactions
Work collaboratively with legal officers to clarify and develop approaches to deal with emerging issues and legislative and regulatory issues raised by applications

Experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Advising on mergers and acquisitions
  • Case processing and investigations
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Policy development and analysis
  • Legal Skills and knowledge
  • Legislative development and/or implementation
  • Governance and risk management
  • Auditing

Key Requirements:

  • Ability to guide teams on complex projects
  • Experience in mentoring and guiding junior team members
  • Experience managing high volumes of applications and working to statutory deadlines or fixed time frames is essential
  • Able to work under limited direction and support the work of staff within the Division
