Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS5 Financial Accountant on a contract for 6 months.

About the Role:

The Financial Accountant assists the Financial Controller in providing financial services to all relevant internal and external stakeholders. The Financial Accountant is primarily responsible for managing the client's non-financial assets.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and prepare monthly financial accounting journals, work papers and reconciliations.
  • Manage the client's non-financial assets accounting requirements.
  • Assist with the administration of the client's tax obligations.
  • Assist with completion of central management budget system (CBMS) external reporting requirements regarding financial reporting.
  • Assist the Financial Controller in the preparation of annual consolidated financial statements.
  • Undertake other various ad-hoc finance duties commensurate with the skill and capability requirements at this level.

Selection Criteria:

  • Proven financial reconciliation skills and experience.
  • Sound analytical skills with demonstrated ability to complete financial reporting tasks. Strong attention to detail and an ability to prioritise own work effectively, meet deadlines and deliver high quality documents against tight deadlines.
  • A high level of motivation, initiative and commitment with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Well-developed interpersonal oral and written communication skills, negotiation skills and a demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships.
  • Sound problem-solving skills and the ability to actively participate and contribute in projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in computerised financial management information systems. Experience using Technology One would be an advantage.

Qualifications, Certifications and Registrations

  • Relevant qualifications in financial accounting, commerce or equivalent is essential.
  • Professional certification - Certified Practising Accountant / Chartered Accountant (CPA/CA), or significant progress towards certification, is desirable.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline security clearance.
