Chandler Macleod have an upcoming 6-month temporary assignment, with x2 possible extensions, with our Federal Government client for an experienced Experience Designer/Service Designer. This assignment is conveniently located in the CBD and on a Monday to Friday roster, full time hours with possible overtime.

The Optimising Interactions Program is a strategic initiative within our Federal Government client, focused on making interactions simple and digital from end-to-end. We work closely with multiple project teams to identify and refine problems along with potential solutions that will contribute to these outcomes.

As the program expands, we are looking for Experience Designers/Service Designers to partner with projects accepted into the program. The Experience Designer/Service Designer will work with a Design Lead/Advisor from the program to help guide project outcomes and may work across multiple projects.

The current 10-person team covers design/advisory, governance and operations and is based in Brisbane, Adelaide and Melbourne. Mix of APS and external staff.

To be successful, you will have a good blend of the following skills and experience:

  • Apply appropriate design methodologies, frameworks and tools to design effective solutions in partnership with stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of multiple design disciplines including human centred design, experience design and service design
  • 2+ years of design experience on multiple end-to-end digital projects; ideally including for a large organisation
  • Ability to lead or support common design activities including ideation, co-design, workshops, interviews, problem definition and mapping
  • Experience in making concepts and early thinking tangible for a wide variety of stakeholders and perspectives
  • Experience using multiple research sources to generate relevant insights
  • Experience in designing effective solutions considering outcomes for the client and the organisation
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of an agile team
  • Ability to work across multiple projects at different stages in a large organisation
  • Develop and maintain professional expertise and look for opportunities to improve the design practice
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes
  • Tailor communication style and language according to the audience's level of knowledge, skill and experience
  • Contribute design knowledge and expertise to resolve problems, identify alternative courses of action, or new ideas, and their implications
  • Provide advice, assist with recommendations and influence business decisions for clients regarding design outcomes
