Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage a Executive Assistant Non-ongoing 12 months contract, option for extension.

Position Overview

An APS5 EA works to the needs of the executive within the Department of Home Affairs (the Department) or the Australian Border Force. They are able to quickly build a successful partnership with their supervisor by using their emotional intelligence and utilising knowledge of the executive's individual preferences. They are accountable, under limited direction, to perform and achieve a range of moderately complex to complex administrative support work, within a fast-paced environment. They are required to have a sound understanding of, and be compliant with, relevant legislative frameworks, government decision-making processes and policy requirements.

An APS5 EA is responsible for organising their own, the executive's and potentially others' workflow, making decisions within defined parameters and setting new precedents based on sound subject matter knowledge and professional judgement, and seeking guidance when required. They work with a solutions focus, using knowledge, evaluation skills, creative thinking and sound judgement to manage various types of issues/situations that arise. They undertake objective and systematic research and analysis activities, as well as additional ad hoc tasks at the discretion of the executive.

The APS5 EA is required to share information/knowledge, develop objectives for short-term tasks and contribute to strategic planning for longer-term initiatives, and set work priorities. They contribute to change and improve the quality and efficiency of services. They are responsible for identifying training needs and mentoring of less experienced EA's in their area. They establish and foster internal and external relationships, regularly liaising with stakeholders on policy, project or operational issues, responding to their needs and expectations. An APS5 EA exercises a high degree of autonomy and accountability as a part of this role.
