The position reports to the National Environmental and Sustainability Manager (NESM) and has direct working relationships with the Site Manager, Production and Rendering Managers, Maintenance Teams, Quality Assurance teams, WHS Teams, Wastewater Coordinator, Baiada contractors and suppliers.

The role:
  • Work in partnership with all areas of the business to assist the NESM in the implementation, review and evaluation of the Environmental Management and Audit System at the site/s under their responsibility so to protect the environment from activities associated with the organization
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant Legislation, Policies, Guidelines and Codes of Practice relating to the site’s Environmental Management System, whilst displaying environmental stewardship and driving continuous improvement
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities on environmental matters (e.g. EPA) only as requested by senior management
  • Responsible for preparation of management reports for decision-making in areas of responsibility
  • Responsible for identifying issues that could impact on the environment and communicating those to relevant supervisors
  • Liaise with regulatory authorities on environmental and planning matters (eg. Environment Protection Authorities, local councils, water authorities) as requested by Senior Management
  • To develop an effective environmental culture at the sites.
  • To coordinate, deliver and evaluate local training congruent with the Baiada National Training systems for employees and other business units as required.

Essential Qualifications/Licenses:
  • Tertiary qualification (or Certificate IV) in Environmental/related science or relevant industry experience and training
  • Excellent leadership skills including conflict resolution and problem solving
  • Management experience of small to medium sized department in a processing environment
  • Structured project management training and / or experience
  • Current state drivers licence and excellent driving record
  • Excellent people skills and mathematical and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Legally entitled to work in Australia (Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident)

Experience Required:
  • Ability to make quick and correct decisions along with long-term decisions on the job
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills with the ability to arrive at and implement long term preventive actions
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to achieve departmental targets (meet Baiada guidelines)
  • Experience in dealing with workplace incidents, with regulators, and in conflict resolution
  • Experience in or knowledge of the poultry processing process, and how it can impact on legal requirements in terms of risk to product, the environment, and personnel.
