Environmental Health Officer

We are currently looking for an Environmental Health Officer on a full-time basis working 38 hours per week.  The tenure will be Ongoing and we are looking for an immediate start.
Location: Perth CBD
 
Position Purpose

To assist in the maintenance of health-related functions, programs and projects that ensure a high standard of environmental and public health is achieved and maintained in accordance with statutory obligations, operational procedures and Council policies.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Maintain highly effective communications with all staff in the Environmental Health Section and consult with the Coordinator Environmental Health on key areas of responsibility.
  • Liaise as appropriate with other members of staff, other local authorities and relevant government organizations on matters relating to environmental health.
  • Undertake research into and submit reports on specific matters of concern as requested by the Manager Safer Communities or the Coordinator Environmental Health.
  • Ensure that plans and building applications for food premises, dwellings and other buildings comply with the provisions of the Food Act, Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and relevant regulations and local laws as applicable.
  • Regularly inspect the stables precinct, as required, to ensure compliance with the Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act and Council's Stables Local Laws.
  • Develop Food Inspection Programs and undertake regular sampling to ensure compliance with relevant legislation. Maintain records, issue warnings and initiate prosecutions when required.
Position Requirements:

Essential:
  • Possession of a qualification deemed suitable by the Chief Health Officer for appointment as an Authorized Officer under the Public Health Act 2016.
  • Possession of an appropriate qualification to enable appointment as an Authorized Noise Officer under the Environmental Protection Act 1986.
  • Possession of, or the ability to acquire, a satisfactory National Police Clearance Certificate (dated within the last twelve months).
  • Good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to communicate with a wide range of people and groups to ensure delivery of a high level of customer service.
  • Proven ability to use personal computer applications, in particular the Microsoft office suite of software.
Desirable:
  • Previous relevant experience in the Environmental Health field.
  • A sound working knowledge of relevant statutory procedures and requirements.
  • Ability to acquire the appropriate legislative endorsements e.g. Construction Induction – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card) in combination with a good understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety requirements relevant to this position.
