Chandler Macleod are very proud to be supporting Fortescue Metals Group with sourcing 2 x Environmental Advisors to join the Environmental Approvals team. This position will be integral to assist with an environmental impact assessment, the preparation of related documents and other deliverables for the approval of an expansion of a large mining operation. The project involves the mining of iron ore and development of support infrastructure linking the mine, a remote bore field and slurry and water pipelines to a port facility.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Revising approvals currently held under Part IV of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 and the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999
  • Assisting with the management of baseline environmental studies
  • Engaging with stakeholders internal to Fortescue
  • Preparing related documentation including;
  • Referral documents under Part IV of the EP Act and EPBC Act
  • Environmental Scoping Document
  • Environmental Review Document
  • Responses to Public Submissions
  • Response to Draft Conditions
  • Appeal Documents (where required)
  • Various correspondence with government agencies and internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Environmental Science Degree or equivalent
  • 3 to 5 years' experience in a similar position in mining industry
  • Consulting or Government background highly regarded
  • Prior experience in the Part 5 License process required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant Environmental Acts and Regulations
  • Proficient Microsoft Office skills
  • Valid C-class driver's licence
  • Ability to pass a Pre-employment Medical including a Drug and Alcohol Screen
  • Current National Police Check
