Senior Transmission and Power System Planning Engineer

Chandler Macleod is excited to offer an opportunity for a Senior Transmission and Power System Planning Engineer, Science and Engineering Professional Band 4 to join our team based in the Northern Territory.
 
Our client is a Northern Territory Government owned utility and generates, transmits and distributes electricity across the region supplying residents and remote communities and outstations. Currently they are seeking a Senior Transmission & Power System Planning Engineer to join the Power Services team in Darwin.
 
This is an exciting, key, highly visible ongoing fulltime role within the company that will see you performing network planning and power system modelling on the regulated and unregulated networks across of the Northern Territory power systems and be instrumental in making a real difference in developing the future Northern Territory power infrastructure.
 
We are looking for a highly skilled, motivated and passionate individual to join our client’s team of professionals in the Northern Territory. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and design of transmission and power networks and will be working closely with a team of professionals to ensure successful transition of our power systems to a green energy future.
 
The successful candidate will be a qualified engineer with a minimum of 10 years' experience in the transmission and power system planning and modelling field. This experience should include strategic transmission network investment planning, power system analysis and the use of RMS and EMT power system analysis software such as Power Factory, PSS/E, PSCAD, SINCAL or similar and Python programming language or similar.
 
The successful candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, clients and stakeholders. They should be able to work independently and in a team environment and be able to think on their feet.
 
The Senior Transmission and Power System Planning Engineer will be responsible for:
 
  • Developing long-term transmission and power system planning strategies
  • Developing detailed transmission and power system plans
  • Working collaboratively with clients and other stakeholders to ensure successful transition of our power system towards renewables
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards
  • Management of resources, budgets and timelines
  • Developing and implementing best practices
 
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills:
 
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
  • At least 10 years' experience in transmission and power system planning
  • Expertise in a variety of software platforms and tools
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • A strong commitment to safety
  • Ability to think on their feet
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
