Chandler Macleod are seeking experienced EL1 and EL2 Tax Specialists for permanent placement with our Federal Government client. This position is conveniently located in Adelaide CBD and on a Monday to Friday roster.
The role

We are seeking influential and experienced leaders to join our Client Engagement (CEG) and Law Design and Practice (LDP) Groups.

As a Tax Specialist, in the Client Engagement Group, you will provide leadership on technical issues and coordinate the provision of specialist advice by others. You will conduct broad legal analysis and research in Australian and International tax law to identify, monitor and address emerging tax risks and tax planning techniques. You will scrutinise complex structures and transactions and prepare legal positions. You will engage with offshore investment portfolios, examine foreign holding structures and seek information from other jurisdictions.

In the Law Design and Practice Group, you will lead the development or analysis for policy proposals for changes to legislation, policies and practices. You will champion the simplification of the tax and superannuation laws, to deliver an improved and streamlined client experience. You will need to be future-focused and able to analyse the broader impacts of tax law and policy change. You will develop and manage relationships within the business and across the APS to provide feedback on draft policies and laws and develop recommendations to achieve a consistent agency position. You may also work with Treasury and other government agencies and forums to help shape tax and superannuation policy and law, and implement the Government's legislative agenda to ensure it can be interpreted and administered to give effect to its policy intent.

Our ideal candidate
> Possesses a deep understanding of the taxation and superannuation legislative and financial environments, particularly in the areas of large public and private groups and multinational enterprises
> Has extensive knowledge and experience with tax reconciliations, understanding economic performance, tax and corporate governance and business risk management
> Has comprehensive understanding of the structures and tax planning approaches used in large or private businesses
> Uses their experience to exercise sound judgment in relation to complex tax disputes, critically analysing the factual matrix and applying the tax laws to achieve principled and fair outcomes
> Is a trusted adviser and experienced negotiator, who can use their expertise to influence on complex, technical or sensitive issues
> Identifies problems and opportunities for improvement, actively engaging others in identifying, developing and implementing solutions
> Has highly developed leadership skills and experience in managing staff within a team environment.

Recognised qualifications in accounting, law, business or commerce-related discipline and/or seven years' experience in audit, tax and law fields are highly desirable for these roles.

You will need to agree to pre-engagement integrity checks to work for the ATO, and some of our roles also require a security clearance. We may conduct further integrity checks during your employment.
