Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an EL1 equivalent Senior Legal Policy Adviser on a contract for 12 months with 6 months extension option.

Position Overview

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Developing policy and preparing drafting instructions and explanatory materials for a new Bill and associated delegated legislation.
  • Reviewing and understanding offshore petroleum and greenhouse gas legislation.
  • Working with the Office of Parliamentary Counsel, Legislation Liaison Unit, Legal Branch and policy teams.
  • Preparing briefings as required, including to the Minister and Senior Executive Staff.
  • Assist the department on any other ad-hoc policy, legal and regulatory reform work.
The contractor will be joining a fast-paced team and will be required to deliver drafting instructions and a draft Bill and delegated legislation within a short timeframe. The contractor must be proactive, detail-oriented, analytical and capable of both working in a team and with limited supervision when required.

Qualifications and Experience Required:
  • experience in preparing drafting instructions and explanatory materials; and
  • legal qualifications or experience interpreting legislation.
  • The role does not include providing legal advice. A current practising certificate is not required.
Mandatory Requirements:
  • Baseline security clearance
