This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced EL1 Economic Development Officer to join a large Federal Government agency for a 12 month temporary assignment 1 x 12 month extension in Kimba or Eyre Peninsula SA.

Please note that no FIFO / DIDO or Travel allowance will be paid if the candidate’s home base is not located in Kimba or Eyre Peninsula.

Kimba and surrounding towns, office location will be Kimba. If the selected candidate is from the greater Eyre Peninsula area, work will be predominantly Work from home, however some work to occur at the Kimba Office location.

Position Summary
The Australian Radioactive Waste Agency (ARWA), a recently established Commonwealth Agency, has a unique opportunity to lead and shape the future of Australia’s expertise in radioactive waste
management with a dynamic, multidisciplinary team working together to implement the Government’s commitment to the safe and secure management of the nation’s radioactive waste. A key element of ARWA’s program is the delivery of the National Radioactive Waste Management Facility at a site near Kimba on the Eyre Peninsula.

The Communications and Engagement Team leads the communications of the agency and works across the organisation to ensure stakeholder engagement is thorough and co-ordinated. Along with communications responsibilities, the team manages community engagement end to end.

Reporting to the Manager Communications and Engagement, the Economic Development Officer is an influential communicator with strong interpersonal skills, enabling them to engage confidently with business and investment stakeholders to drive economic outcomes for the Eyre Peninsula in a way that supports ARWA and the Facility.

As the Economic Development Officer, you will support the people and businesses in Kimba and the broader Eyre Peninsula region to maximise the economic benefits and job opportunities that will flow from the development and operation of the Facility. You will have high level abilities in the areas of economic development, consultation, advocacy, negotiation and influencing in order to successfully resolve stakeholder issues and meet organisational and regional needs.

Duties
  • Develop and maintain a database and network of industry stakeholders relevant to the economic development of the Eyre Peninsula as it relates to ARWA and the Facility.
  • Identify investment leads and opportunities that ARWA and the region can support.
  • Assist local industry and businesses to engage with ARWA in the facilitation of growth, innovation and expansion opportunities.
  • Assess where local community economic, skills and employment priorities align with planning for the Facility.
Assist communities in identifying opportunities under the planned Community Skills and Development Program grants.
  • Carry out industry and market-based research to support submissions and business cases related to local economic opportunities.
  • Ensure strategic economic issues and opportunities are continually considered by ARWA.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with senior local government and industry organisations.
  • Represent ARWA at relevant events involving industry, business, and government agencies.
  • Provide input into relevant strategic submissions and documents as required.
  • Work in a dynamic environment, including team and agency liaison over multiple locations.
Selection Criteria
Essential:
  • Proven experience in the formulation and implementation of business or economic development strategies and policies in regional or metropolitan areas.
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal and communication skills, with particular emphasis in the areas of economic development, consultation, advocacy, negotiation, influencing and assertiveness in order to successfully resolve stakeholder issues and meet changing organisational needs.
  • A good understanding of local business and economic conditions and the role of local government in economic development demonstrated through experience in liaising/working with business/industry organisations to navigate successful outcomes in a large public sector organisation.
  • Proven and highly developed research, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think strategically, particularly in relation to analysis of economic trends and opportunities.
  • Proven experience in liaising/working with business/industry organisations to navigate successful outcomes.
  • Proven ability to manage own varied workload and balance conflicting priorities by demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Current Class C (car) driver’s license.
  • Some Intrastate Travel may be required
Desired:
  • Experience working in local, state or federal government or similar environment.
  • Experience in business management, tourism, and retail business and a good understanding of the issues facing businesses in their day-to-day operation.
  • Experience working in regional or remote economic development.
Qualifications:
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Economics, Commerce, Business, Business Administration, Stakeholder Relations, or Project Management.

What's on Offer?
  • Position located in Kimba or Eyre Peninsula SA - If the selected candidate is from the greater Eyre Peninsula area, work will be predominantly Work from home, however some work to occur at the Kimba Office location.
  • $70.00 to $75/per hour + super depending on skills
  • Temporary contract for 12 month with a possibility to extend for a further 12 months
  • Fulltime hours, Monday to Friday 5 Days per week x 7.5 Hours per day
