About the role:
The EL1 Complex Case Manager (Senior Clinician) is responsible for providing a high-quality support to those who serve or have served in the defense of our nation and their families. A key purpose of this role is to provide support and advice to them by helping them to navigate their legislative entitlements and external psychosocial support services.

The EL1 Complex Case Manager (Senior Clinician) support staff with their understanding of and adherence to all procedures including the Case Review Framework, Risk Assessment Framework and Managed Access Protocols. You will be experienced in considering the social determinants of health and wellbeing by using relevant legislation, guidelines, policies and procedures, ensuring a consistent approach by the branch. In addition to this, you will work closely with key stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for clients and stakeholders.

The Complex Case Manager (Senior Clinician) will:

  • Provide support for clients at risk of harm to self or others.
  • Provide specialized clinical expertise and advice to support the work of the Complex Case Managers.
  • Manage a case load of complex clients in addition to supporting the wider case management team with complex escalation points.
  • Be responsible for organizing Complex Case reviews with staff across the branch, engaging professional knowledge to make sound recommendations for case management, escalation or closure.
  • Be available to inform the management of and response to urgent client escalations.
  • Undertake assessments including intake and risk assessments.
  • Contribute to the preparation of high-level client summaries and briefs.


  • Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor's degree or higher) in a relevant health field including Nursing, Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or Social Work.
  • 5 years of experience working as a senior case manager, or equivalent senior role.
  • Demonstrated experience in staff management or staff mentoring
  • Extensive experience working with people who present with complex mental health conditions, understanding people living with mental health conditions that have experienced significant trauma.
  • Expertise in supporting clients impacted by substance abuse, mood, and anxiety disorders (including PTSD).
  • Experience in coordinating and assisting in the management of complex cases
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and proficiency in the use of IT systems including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in organizing, assessment and case management via telephone.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Current Police Check, or ability to obtain one.
  • Registration with the Australian Health Practitioners Registration Agency (AHPRA), or eligibly for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
