About the role:

The EL1 Assistant Director, Ccommunications is responsible for provide the leadership, control, planning, resource management, performance management and decision making for the team. You will have delegated authority and responsibility to resolve issues and risks. Additionally, you will manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships and may be required to represent and negotiate on behalf of the Agency to advance the Agency's interests across a range of forums.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of influential communications and engagement strategies and plans to support the National Delivery and Operations and Support Divisions
  • Mentor and guide a small team of communications professionals in providing strategic advice to support the delivery of Corporate Plan aspirations and objectives
  • Drive the creation, delivery and review of communications and engagement content through established communications channels
  • Identify and embed opportunities for continuous improvement in communications and engagement activities and processes
  • Identify and mitigate reputational risks associated with communications and engagement activities Become a trusted and reliable partner to stakeholders across the Agency and further embed existing working relationships to improve the reputation of the Branch and team
  • Build new internal and external networks to facilitate the development and delivery of effective, targeted and timely communications activities
  • Identify new opportunities for knowledge sharing within the Community Engagement and Communications Branch and show leadership in building communications capability


  • Extensive experience working in a similar role under Australian rules and regulations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and proficiency in the use of IT systems including Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
  • Current Police Check, o ability to obtain one.
