Chandler Macleod is currently recruiting for an experienced Director of Logistics and Equipment to join a leading NSW Government agency.
The Director of Logistics and Equipment is the key lead for the design and execution of the strategic programs for the provisions of infrastructure, firefighting appliances and equipment (PPE/PPC) all of the department. The role leads the logistics program which is responsibility for the organisation’s warehousing practices, transport arrangements, supply chain resilience, deployable assets, and Major Incident Logistic Support (MILS) arrangements. The role is responsible for developing and delivering the organisation’s strategic facilities program and must ensure that the budget of the program is applied to return the greatest organisational benefit in respect of delivering against contemporary need.
Key Accountabilities:
In this position you will be expected to:
  • Lead the development and implementation of a production model for the delivery of firefighting appliances; firefighting and support vessels; and corporate vehicles that meets the operational capability needs.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and leadership in terms of driving the supplier eco-system; dealing with high-capital businesses; managing supplier performance and delivery, whilst ensuring compliance with Government procurement guidelines and obligations..
  • Lead research and innovation in respect of firefighting appliances, vessels, vehicles, and equipment (PPE/PPC) including analysis of industry trends, emerging technologies, and sector developments to ensure firefighter safety is always a priority and to ensure that service delivery outcomes are achieved.
  • Lead the development and implementation of a contemporary logistics program that captures an inventory management strategy; details coordinated warehouse practices; guides transport arrangements; and delivers fit for purpose airbase and heavy plant operations.
  • Lead the creation and delivery of a strategic facilities program that, within allocated budgets, delivers against the organisation’s infrastructure requirements. This includes leading leasing negotiations, coordinating the organisation’s PFAS program, high level contract negotiations and then maintaining a governance oversight in respect of our facilities and construction projects.
  • In collaboration with internal stakeholders and in particular with peer executive members, develop and maintain the Asset Management Framework and System for the department.
  • Embed a purpose-driven culture and effective people management practices to drive member engagement and service delivery to the community.
  • Lead a proactive approach to the continuous improvement of work health and safety, ensuring safe systems of work and management commitment to member wellbeing.

About You:
To succeed in this role, you will  skilled leader, highly organised and motivated with a demonstrated ability to work flexibly and to tight deadlines. Further to this, to be considered for the role you will also need:
  • A Degree or Graduate Certificate in Business or a relevant discipline
  • Significant experience in senior leadership and management of professional teams
  • Demonstrated success in developing high performing and engaged teams
  • Significant experience in logistics and warehousing
  • Significant operational experience in firefighting or a related emergency services sector discipline
  • Genuine appreciation and understanding of a volunteer-based community service
