Our client, one of Australia's leading resources companies, is seeking to engage a Perth-based Design Lead Engineer role will be responsible for all aspect of designs in relation to dewatering projects. with occasional travel to site for meetings and execution.

Reporting to the Program Manager, the focus of this role includes planning, organising and supervision ensuring designs are completed in a timely manner and to the highest standard. The role includes delivering detailed design deliverables associated with water infrastructure projects across all our client sites.

Key accountabilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Competency in relevant water infrastructure design, preparation of technical deliverables, budgeting, scope definition and liaising with key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate project design reviews including initial field inspections and adherence to basis of design and stakeholder requirements.
  • Hydraulic modelling of pipelines, borefields, pump stations, Turkey's nest, etc.
  • Develop final engineering deliverables including but not limited to pipeline schematics, GA's, P&ID's, critical equipment datasheet and technical/cost review of vendor proposal for compliance.
  • Develop project deliverables including Schematics, Material Take Offs, Scope of Works, Safety in Design Risk Assessments, Bill of Quantities and Capital input estimates.
  • Review of project team deliverables with high attention on details aimed to improve system quality, reducing cost and facilitate site installation (constructability).
  • Project design taking into consideration of environmental and heritage boundary zones including the application for Land Use Certificate to ensure project environmental compliance.
  • Construction support in responding to Technical Queries and revising design deliverables as required.
  • Planning, scheduling, and creating executable dewatering design plans with all required resource ensuring designs are completed within the design required by date
  • Responsible for materials specification review along with planning of long lead procurement.

Qualifications and skills required:

  • Relevant engineering degree with at least 5 to 8 years piping and hydraulic design experience (Mechanical Degree with dewatering projects within the mining industry is preferable).
  • Previous experience leading a team and drawing out the best of direct reports.
  • Understanding of Australian and general International standards and regulatory authority requirements in the mining and water industries.
  • Clear communication skills in both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional management and organisational skills, with the ability to multi-task in a "stretch target goal" approach.
  • Ability to self-start, deliver autonomously and travel to site as required
  • A problem-solving mentality with the ability to "think outside of the box".
  • Competency in AutoCAD, Visio, Arc map (preferable).
