The Role

Our Federal Government client is looking to recruit a Design Lead in a program focused on making interactions simple and digital from end-to-end. The Design Lead will work Experience/Service Designers to help guide project outcomes across multiple projects.


  • Proven ability to develop and execute effective design engagement plans that balance outcomes, constraints and effort
  • Experience in designing effective solutions considering outcomes for the client and the organization
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with multiple stakeholders and represent the interests of the Optimising Interactions program
  • Experience mentoring junior design staff and comfortable sharing experience and knowledge
  • Apply appropriate design methodologies, frameworks and tools to design effective solutions in partnership with stakeholders
  • Excellent knowledge of multiple design disciplines including human centred design, experience design and service design
  • 5+ years of design experience on multiple end-to-end digital projects; ideally as the Design Lead or Advisor and some within a large organization
  • Ability to lead common design activities including ideation, co-design, workshops, interviews, problem definition and mapping
  • Experience in making concepts and early thinking tangible for a wide variety of stakeholders and perspectives
  • Experience using multiple research sources to generate relevant insights
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of an agile team
  • Ability to work across multiple projects at different stages in a large organization
  • Develop and maintain professional expertise and look for opportunities to improve the design practice
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes
  • Tailor communication style and language according to the audience's level of knowledge, skill and experience
  • Contribute design knowledge and expertise to resolve problems, identify alternative courses of action, or new ideas, and their implications
  • Provide advice, assist with recommendations and influence business decisions for clients regarding design outcomes
