Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS5 Compliance Officer on a contract for 6 months with potential extension.

Duties & Responsibilities:

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • As a member of a small team, conduct compliance activities in the office and field, in accordance with relevant policies and standards, and the requirements of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 and the Environment Protection (Sea Dumping) Act 1981.
  • Under limited direction, provide input into compliance and monitoring activities conducted by the Branch under the Acts.
  • Perform administrative, policy and program activities, including maintenance of appropriate administrative standards, procedures and systems and provide input into operational policies, guidelines and risk management activities.
  • Liaise with areas of the Department, relevant external regulatory agencies and industry bodies, and with regulated entities anywhere across Australia to deliver compliance outcomes.

Skills & Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct compliance activities in the office and the field. Including:
    • interpreting and applying legislation to assist in researching, analysing and investigating compliance concerns; and
    • the development of evidence based solutions and recommendations that contribute to achieving environmental priorities and compliance outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare correspondence, evidence-based reports and briefing papers to inform decision making.
  • Well developed communication, representation, negotiation and interpersonal skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated time management skills including managing competing priorities.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of compliance plans, audit work programs and strategic and team goals.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline security clearance.
