The Opportunity

Chandler Macleod is looking to engage a Community and Safety Support Officer for a contract term of 5 months + potential extension with a well-established NSW Government department. This role will be based in Wollongong, with flexible working arrangements on offer.

Job Specification

  • A particular focus on speed zone reviews, you will support team members in initial assessments of speed zone suggestions, through desktop analysis including investigating crash history, developing locality maps, and creating speed zone and crash history maps.
  • Develop and support key relationships with stakeholders including councils, community groups, other government departments, service providers and operators to meet community needs and delivery of programs.
  • Collaborate with customers, communities and key stakeholders to inform movement and place planning, decision making and delivery of transport solutions throughout the region.
  • Provide timely and considered responses to customer and stakeholder issues with a customer focus
  • Deliver a diverse range of programs to community, partners and stakeholders, including the support in planning, coordination, monitoring and reporting on those programs to provide strong safety and transport outcomes.
  • Implement a safe systems approach for the investigation of serious and fatal crashes to improve customer and community safety.
  • Conduct relevant transport and customer data analysis to identify and understand local transport issues.
  • Support the provision of technical advice to internal and external stakeholders concerning safety and transport network performance.
  • Maintain awareness of plans, policies and priorities to ensure they are represented from an informed perspective in public forums and discussions with external agencies.
  • Collaborate with other divisions and branches to provide the voice of our communities to inform plans, programs and customer engagements.

About You

To be successful in this position, you will need to have experience in the following:
  • A passion for road safety and the technical experience to apply the Safe System approach in urban and rural settings.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders across a large geographical area.
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with the community and a commitment to understanding our customers' transport needs would be seen as an asset to our team.

  • Candidates will have the ability to capture an audience by communicating technical information effectively in a way everyone can understand.
  • Candidates will have proven project management experience, flexibility to adjust to changing priorities, and great attention to detail.
  • A familiarity operating in a State or local government environment would be ideally suited to the role.
