Have you served in the ADF, or are you the family member of someone who served in the ADF?

This highly regarded federal government service is responsible for the delivery of mental health services for Veteran and Defence Force communities and their families. You will be working as part of an Australian wide team who provide face to face counselling telephone based support and case management and process intake and assessments, telephone based support and case management. You would be joining a large team of passionate and highly professional specialist staff, within a supportive working environment which provides clinical supervision, professional development opportunities and peer and management support.

The role

The position of Community and Peer advisor a unique opportunity for someone with lived experience of mental illness who has been in the Australian Defense Force (ADF) service. The position will require you to use your own lived experience to educate and empower consumers and stakeholders about recovery and services available. The position will require stakeholder engagement and an ability to develop collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The position requires a strengths based recovery approach. You will have a passion for increasing well being and supporting vulnerable or at risk former defense force members and their families. You will be a role model and act as a symbol of recovery to promote well being. You will be confident delivering presentations and group workshops.

This is a Full time role on a 12 month initial contract based in Darwin.

Criteria

  • You must have trained and served in the military.
  • Have an understanding of psycho social issues facing current and ex-serving ADF members and their families.
  • An ability to engage and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Demonstrates a personal commitment to strategies that support one's own level of self-care and well being.
  • A willingness to obtain a WWCC is essential
  • Current valid Driver's Licence
  • It is highly desirable that you work in the Mental Health sector or have a tertiary qualification in mental health
