This role will be for one month ASAP start with possible extension.

Position Summary:

The Communications Officer is responsible for promoting the organisation, its events, programs, and activities, and enhancing the organisation's reputation in accordance with the Strategic Community Plan and Corporate Business Plan objectives. This position is also responsible for overseeing corporate branding, producing Council publications, and facilitating internal and external communications, including media.

Responsibilities of Position:

Position Responsibilities

Corporate Communications

  • Implement, monitor and review the organisation's Strategic Communications Plan in consultation with the Manager Communications and Customer Engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of processes, procedures and strategies to achieve excellence across all areas of communication.
  • Provide broad media and communication advice to staff and service teams facilitating effective community consultation as required on matters affecting the organisation.
  • Oversee the development of corporate publications.

Media Communications

  • Produce high quality media releases to inform the community about the organisation's activities, programs, projects, and strategic direction.
  • Work with internal business units to identify good news stories to promote the organisation's activities, programs, and projects
  • Manage incoming media enquiries in a timely manner with a view to improving the organisation's reputation and standing within the community.
  • Identify opportunities for and coordinate media interviews and photo opportunities for the organisation's media spokespeople.
  • Undertake other media management duties as required.
  • Provide support in the development and distribution of the organisation's monthly Newsletters
  • Provide support in the development and publication of video content for the organisation's digital channels.

Internal Communications

  • Provide advice to staff and service teams to facilitate effective internal communication across the organisation.
  • Assist Human Resources with the facilitation of internal corporate publications
  • Oversee content produced and uploaded to the Communication Team section of the organisation's Intranet.

Corporate Branding

  • Implement and maintain the organisation's Brand Style Guide
  • Approve all artwork (internal and external) that contains the organisation's logo to ensure the integrity of the organisation's brand.
  • Develop, implement and maintain the organisation's Communications Guidelines.
  • Facilitate comprehensive education sessions with the organisation Officers as to the use of corporate templates and other branded collateral.
  • Provide advice to the organisation Officers in the preparation of advertising.
  • Produce copy, artwork, and promotional collateral to promote the organisation's events and activities.

Council Publications

  • Provide corporate communications oversight, ensuring all publications incorporate high quality written content and design presentation.
  • Produce Council publications that meet the needs of the community, reflect and enhance the organisation's corporate image and identity and meet written content, style and qualify guidelines, as set out in the organisation's Corporate Style Guide.

Digital communications

  • Oversee the management of the organisation's online engagement platform to ensure it remains current and engaging
  • rovide support to staff in the development of project pages for engagement activities on the organisation's online engagement platform.
  • Provide support in the management of the organisation's corporate website to ensure it remains current and engaging.

Essential Criteria

1. Tertiary qualifications in Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or relevant experience.
2. Excellent written communication skills, both analytical and creative.
3. Excellent organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
4. Sound knowledge of marketing and public relations strategies.
5. Significant experience in working with the media.
6. Ability to prepare, edit and produce content for a range of publications and the mediums.

Desirable Criteria

1. Experience in the use of Technology One system
2. Previous local government experience.
3. Video editing skills
4. Previous experience using a Content Management System
