About the Organization:

This City of Boroondara is located in Melbourne's inner and middle eastern suburbs, five kilometers east of the central business district. It is a beautiful area bounded by water courses and parklands including the Yarra River, Gardiner's Creek and Yarra Bend Park. The city is primarily residential in nature, although it has a number of educational and private and public health-care facilities.

About the role:

The Communication Officer is responsible for support the strategic communication department to provide a positive digital experience for customers, in particular users of the City social media channels. You will be managing organic and paid social media and electronic direct mail (EDM) channels to engage our community, effectively communicate its plans, priorities and initiatives, and build the council's public profile.

The Communication officer responsibilities include planning, producing and publishing a range of different kinds of content, daily online community management, campaign strategies, social listening/monitoring, analysis and reporting against key performance indicators (KPI).

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Write, edit and publish and evaluate content, as part of integrated marketing communication campaigns and stand-alone posts/communication initiatives
  • Develop, implement and evaluate Council's social media strategy to build and engage audiences across Council's social media channels (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn), as well as paid digital display campaigns
  • Create, and manage the social media and EDM content calendar
  • Manage production of monthly EDM for the digital Bulletin in collaboration with the digital content team
  • Community Management
  • Review, evaluation and reporting
  • Maintain currency with contemporary digital practice and publishing standards and champion the customer
  • Provide training, input and advice to Strategic Communications and Customer Connect team members in social media best practices and assist with writing responses to protect and enhance Council's reputation


  • Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor's degree or higher) in Digital Content or similar (Such as Online Content, Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing etc)
  • Experience in managing paid and organic social media and EDM channels
  • Expertise to design, brief and deliver engaging digital marketing campaigns and content, the ability to identify and mitigate risks on social media channels
  • Maintain good working relationships with internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Experience working in a similar role
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and proficiency in the use of IT systems including Microsoft Office
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development
