The Hastings Co-operative is a diverse multi-faceted retailer operating in the grocery, packaged liquor, fuel, hardware, rural supplies, department store and car rental space. Commencing in 1916 as a dairy Co-operative, the Hastings Co-op has grown in the consumer retail space and is now one of the largest retail co-operatives in Australia. Based in Wauchope on the mid north coast of NSW the Co-op employs nearly 400 local people and has a turnover in excess of $113M pa.

About the role

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced "hands on" Chief Executive Officer to manage and grow the business into the future.

Reporting to a dynamic, skills-based Board, this role requires vision, ambition, creativity energy and presence. With a leadership team in place and a track record of sector leadership, innovation, and dedication to servicing the community the next CEO will need to continue the momentum

The role is critical in assisting the Board with the development and implementation of the overall strategy of the Co-op. The position requires a high level of strategic thinking and change management skills as the Co-op is going through a significant period of change.

The variety of duties provides the successful applicant with the opportunity to demonstrate their versatility in a fast paced and often dynamic environment and you will be responsible for leading a small group of executives in achieving the financial and non-financial KPIS of the Co-op.

About You

To be successful in this role you will need to be an experienced and driven individual with strong innovative spirit. You will possess financial and operational acumen, with a proven record of developing and implementing strategic plans, particularly in the areas of revenue growth and business development opportunities.

In addition, a minimum of 5 years' experience in a Senior Management or Executive Role, preferably in a retail setting with degree qualifications in a business-related discipline or relevant experience will be key to your success in the role, as well as.
  • The ability to engage with a variety of people at all levels is essential as is your capability to develop key personnel so that they reach their potential.
  • Have very strong communication, change management and negotiation skills
  • Ability to think laterally and develop innovative solutions by using superior analytic and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of the Co-operative principles and the laws that govern Co-operatives is desirable.
