The Australian National Maritime Museum, Darling Harbour, is seeking casual staff to work on the museum's spring holiday programs (24 Sept - 9 Oct potential to be extended on a casual basis) for families with children aged from 2-14 years. Further opportunities may exist for work on Mondays, Tuesdays or weekends during term time and other school holidays during 2022 subject to staffing needs.

The museum prides itself on providing quality, innovative programs for children aged 2-14 yrs. The successful applicants will be responsible for engaging children and families in public programs activity areas including Kids on Deck or Mini Mariners programs, and in facilitating interactive family experiences.

  • Casual work
  • Minimum 4 hour call out between 8.30am - 5.00pm. $27.46 hourly rate + Super
  • Primarily employed to work on school holiday programs, with some opportunities to work on term time programs or interactive exhibitions subject to staffing needs.
  • Job involves facilitating interactive exhibitions and family programs including art making, play activities and opportunities to lead costumed tours, kids parties and creative workshops.

Works as part of a team with other casual family programs staff

Key Selection Criteria:
  • Demonstrated experienced in working with children OR studies in Early Childhood or Primary School education.
  • Flexible schedule and the ability to commit to working the Spring school holidays. Availability during school term including Mondays, Tuesdays, Saturdays or Sundays will also be favourable for any ongoing work opportunities.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Experience in working as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Senior first aid qualifications (desirable but not essential).
  • Ability to use creative arts or performing arts to enhance the learning experience of program participants.
The successful candidate:
  • Must be physically fit as job involves set up and pack up of equipment for programs. Some lifting required.
  • Must be flexible and innovative in their approach to program delivery, prepared to respond and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Must be prepared to work co operatively as part of a diverse team.
