Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an APS6 Case Manager on a contract for 12 Months.

Position Overview

The Case Manager has a critically important human resources objective, to reduce the impact of injury, poor performance or conduct on an individual and the workplace, and does not usually provide actual or direct care to the employee during rehabilitation, performance improvement and conditions of employment matters (for example, Review of Action and Code of Conduct). The Case Manager works as part of a wider team that may include the employee, manager, treatment providers and external service providers. The Case Manager is responsible for ensuring quality, cost effective and efficient services for employees and hold specific delegations to perform the required services within their role.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • provide advice and assistance to managers and employees, consistent with legislation, internal policies and procedures on complex health, performance and Australian Public Service (APS) employment matters
  • negotiate with stakeholders to resolve conflict
  • exercise sound judgement to make decisions and full recommendations to decision makers in case management processes
  • apply knowledge, experience and evidence based approaches for the effective and timely management of health, performance and employment cases to achieve positive outcomes
  • write case management reports, statements, letters and other documents required by or for medical personnel, Comcare, Superannuation providers, Administrative Appeals Tribunal and legal professionals
  • develop policy and procedures and undertake project work related to the strategic requirements of the organisation
  • supervise, coach and mentor team members, identifying and addressing development needs
  • build and manage productive and effective partnerships that engage both internal and external stakeholders
  • analyse and interpret data and statistical information to identify and report on emerging trends in health, performance and employment related case management
  • identify, recommend and implement opportunities for improvement to work practices, policies or procedures

  • construct project plans that have clear and appropriate milestones, goals, timeframes and budgets
  • anticipate and be responsive to changes in client and stakeholder needs; provide courteous, prompt and professional service to clients
  • make time for people despite competing priorities; provide guidance and offer full support when required

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have (or be able to obtain and maintain) a Baseline clearance.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in human resources, work health and safety, an allied health field or other related discipline, highly desirable
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of relevant legislation, policy and procedures including the Safety Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 1988, Public Service Act 1999 and Work Health and Safety Act 2012 (Cwth).
  • Demonstrated core capabilities of a Rehabilitation Case Manager as prescribed in Comcare's Rehabilitation Case Manager Core Capabilities publication.
