Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an EL1 Case Manager on a contract until June 2021, with potential extension.

Position Overview

The Assistant Director - Case Instructors and Case Managers (Early Resolution Teams) are responsible for assessing and instructing in cases filed in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). The role is an integral part of the Early Resolution Model, which is designed to improve the experience of current and prospective participants. Assistant Directors provide support to their Directors and guide and mentor other members of the team. Successful applicants will have demonstrated sound judgment, ability to manage significant caseloads, ability to manage and control risks and capacity to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team. You will have strong interpersonal ability and capacity to engage appropriately with stakeholders, including participants and their representatives, to achieve desired outcomes.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Deliver results through the effective case management of AAT Applications in relation to plan and access decisions.
  • Be timely, reliable and work under pressure, including:
    • effectively manage AAT Applications received by the Agency allocated to the early resolution teams;
    • analyse AAT Applications and develop early resolution options;
    • identify and obtain the information necessary to allow the effective resolution of AAT Applications; and
    • attendance at Hearings, Conciliations and Case Conferences in the AAT.
  • With the Director, prepare briefs to clearly and concisely outline:
    • resolution options at Case Management meetings; and
    • the meeting outcomes for each application to the early resolution teams.
  • Assess and respond to risks arising from AAT Applications, including in terms of scheme financial sustainability and priority.
  • Act appropriately in response to legal and technical advice.
  • Assist the Director to prepare reports, meeting submissions and correspondence.

Desirable Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications in law or a related discipline will be viewed favourably. Successful candidates will not be required to hold or maintain a legal practicing certificate. Please note, this role does not require candidates to possess a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, nor is it a graduate position that offers a GDLP placement.
  • Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Act 2013 (Cth).
  • Knowledge of the National Disability Insurance Scheme Rules 2016 (Cth)
