The Opportunity:

Chandler Macleod is currently recruiting for an experienced Assistant Director, Case Manager to join a leading Federal Government agency. This is an immediate start with a contract term of 12 months.

Role title: EL1 Case Management

End Date: 08/08/2023

Location: Parramatta, NSW

Pay rate: $585 per day + Super

Key Accountabilities:

The Administrative Appeals Branch (AAB) manages all external review applications in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). The branch aims to improve the experience of current and prospective participants in the Client's organisation by resolving applications for review in a timely and consistent manner.

The EL1 Assistant Director, Case Management works to manage, progress and resolve AAT applications. The role will assess often complex information against legislative criteria and the Client's policy to determine the most suitable way to conduct AAT proceedings on behalf of the Client. The focus is on resolving matters in a timely manner and, where reasonably possible, without a need to progress to an AAT hearing.

Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

  • Undertaking end to end case management activities, subject to appropriate line manager input.
  • Resolving matters through case management of AAT applications in relation to reviewable decisions in section 100 of the Client's Act, including the Client's plan and access decisions.
  • Undertaking case management of highly complex AAT matters and analysing to develop recommendations for early resolution.
  • Obtaining necessary information and advice to effectively resolve AAT matters.
  • Applying alternate dispute resolution methods and advocacy skills to resolving applications/reviews, in keeping with the model litigant principles.
  • Attending Case Conferences, Conciliations, Hearings conducted by the AAT.
  • Preparing documents detailing resolution options and outcomes at Case Management meetings,
  • Assessing and responding to priority and risks, including risk to the participant, Scheme sustainability and the Client.
  • Contributing to the preparation of reports, business cases, meeting submissions and correspondence.
  • Preparing and maintaining electronic record keeping, including evidence supporting decision making processes and justifying conclusions reached during the case management process.
  • Leading and contributing to strategic projects and policy development processes.
  • Leading development of and contribution to Ministerial and Parliamentary briefs.
  • Leading a team and/or a scope of work, including mentoring, supervising, training and supporting Junior Case Managers

About You:

To succeed in this role, you will be a team player, highly organised and motivated with a demonstrated ability to work flexibly and to tight deadlines.

The role provides high level policy and operational advice and support. It will exercise high level problem solving skills to achieve early resolution through negotiation or progress to a final hearing. It will also engage directly with AAT applicants and their representatives, utilising interpersonal, liaison and negotiation skills, and strong awareness of issues affecting people with disability.
