Chandler Macleod is currently recruiting for an experienced Business Development Manager to join one of Sydney's largest Universities. This is a permanent role with a fixed term contract of 3 years and is based in a Sydney location.

Key Accountabilities

In this position you will be expected to:

  • Work with the Academic and Research Support leadership in the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Pipeline and Pre-Award team in Research Operations to identify and implement strategies that will enhance commercialisation of research in medicine and health through industry partnerships
  • Promote and facilitate engagement between researchers and industry, in collaboration with the Research Pipeline and Pre-Award team in order to create opportunities for new partnerships and collaborations
  • Support the creation of and fostering of an entrepreneurial culture across the University
  • Identification, evaluation and development of commercial opportunities
  • Identify, foster and maintain new and existing industrial partnerships
  • Monitor opportunities for industry engagement and commercialisation activities and relate them to opportunities identified by the Research Operations team
  • Support, organise and participate in seminars, information sessions, workshops and other relevant activities to inform and educate researchers of commercialisation and engagement avenues
  • Actively participate in professional development activities (such as conferences, meetings, seminars and workshops) to ensure maintenance of up-to-date skills and knowledge and undertake training as appropriate
  • Any other activities as directed by line manager

    About You

  • Ability to perceive new opportunities to develop and commercialise research through partnership with industry and develop strategies to capitalise on these opportunities
  • Broad understanding of IP protection and management
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical and report writing skills related to partnership development
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to advocate on behalf of researchers and interact across all required professional spheres; academic, administrative, clinical, public and corporate sectors
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the biotechnology/medical research industry
  • Knowledge of current funding sources in the medical/life-science sector with an emphasis on industry and community engagement (e.g. NHMRC, ARC Linkage and CRC-P programs)
  • Experience in evaluation of commercial opportunities from medical/life-science based research or technology developments
  • Experience of working in an industry or a university or research organisation, commercial office or company in a sales/business development environment
Further to this, to be considered for the role you will also need:

Australian Citizenship and if successful will need to undergo x2 reference checks and hold a current Baseline clearance or be willing to obtain one.
