Chandler Macleod is currently recruiting for a Assistant Manager of Indigenous Programs to join a leading Federal Government agency. This is an immediate start with a contract term of 12 months.

About the company:
Based in Sydney's CBD, this agency is tasked with implementing programs that work with and for all women, but particularly those who are at increased risk of online harm. These programs aim to empower Australian women to manage technology risks and abuse and to take control of their online experiences.

About the role:
In this role you will be responsible for a suite of initiatives that help to reduce violence against women and children. These initiatives include:

  • Development of resources to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders in moderating and mediating community use of technology, and in recognising and managing technology facilitated abuse which is used to extend domestic and family violence in communities.
  • Community capacity building and the provision of training - the development and implementation of a program of culturally appropriate resources to assist women in urban, regional and remote indigenous communities to identify and report technology-facilitated abuse, and to teach them how to keep themselves, and their children, safe online.


Key Accountabilities:
In this position you will be expected to:

  • Develop and deliver new and customised resources and training materials for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Deliver presentations and training sessions to specific audiences.
  • Work with communities and any specialist agencies to develop resources and tools.
  • Produce high quality written work including tailored advice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Help shape the marketing and promotion of these and other programs.
  • Work collaboratively with team members within the business and across it, sharing
    your own expertise to achieve desired outcomes for these initiatives.
  • Subject to COVID-19 restrictions, this position will require significant levels of travel within Australia.


About You:
To succeed in this role, you will be a skilled facilitator and trainer, a team player, highly organised and motivated with a demonstrated ability to work flexibly and to tight deadlines. Further to this, to be considered for the role you will also need:

  • A high level of cultural competency, including demonstrated skills in communicating and engaging effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Experience in the delivery of training programs, both face-to-face and via online platforms.
  • Experience in managing the development of training and education resources or guidance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

    Please note that to be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen and if successful will need to undergo x2 reference checks and a National Police Clearance. You will also need to hold or be willing to obtain a Working with Vulnerable People / Children check that is valid for paid work.
