Our Federal Government client is seeking to engage an EL1 Assistant Director on a contract for 12 months with potential extension 12 months.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will lead a small team and work across policy, project management, IT delivery and program management to manage the mutual obligation requirements job seekers have to improve their employment prospects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Undertaking work that is complex or sensitive in nature and operating under broad direction.
  • Contributing to policy development and strategic program planning for changes to mutual obligations and compliance,
  • Providing expertise and high-quality advice to key stakeholders on mutual obligation requirements,
  • Guiding the development of updates to program guidelines, training and reference material for job seekers, employment service providers and departmental staff,
  • Leading a small team to successfully implement and manage projects to improve policy and program outcomes, and
  • Being the business lead for any changes to the IT system that supports job seekers and employment service providers to manage mutual obligation requirements.

Required capabilities, experience and/or qualifications:

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following capabilities/experience and/or qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership to staff in an evolving business environment and to build team capabilities to meet current and future business needs
  • Excellent communication skills, including drafting briefs, operational policy guidance, Ministerial responses, updating Guidelines and developing presentations and papers for various audiences.
  • Strong stakeholder management and liaison skills, including a proven ability to foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Organisational skills and attention to detail, as well as an ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes in a timely manner.
  • High quality program management and implementation skills, leading a small team to achieve results and manage risk.
  • Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment, high level of judgement, common sense and integrity.

The following skills and knowledge will also be highly regarded:

  • An understanding of Government employment services policies and programs.
  • Good understanding of the income support system, mutual obligation requirements, and the Targeted Compliance Framework.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • The successful candidate will be required to have a Baseline security clearance.
