Position title: Asset Engineer - Roads and Structural Assets
Contract Estimation Duration: 1YR fixed-term contract (possibility of extension(s))

Salary / Rate: $37 - $46 PH + Super
Purpose of this position:

  • Undertake site inspections throughout City's LGA for a range of civil infrastructure assets including roads, footpaths, kerb and gutter and structures including bridges, cliffs/retaining walls, stairs/steps/ramps/passageways and sea walls including pontoons /jetties. Record asset conditions and defects along with photos in a systematic way to develop future work program.
  • Assist the team in reviewing various engineering design, drawing, report in relation to the above roads, footpaths and structural assets by comparing against relevant Australian Standards, RMS Specifications, Austroads guide, etc. and preparing comments and recommendations.
  • Assist the Principal Engineer in the development of future works programs and implementation of the City's asset management strategies to ensure that the City's civil assets perform to optimum service.
  • Assist the Principal Engineer in ensuring that civil infrastructure constructed by developers and others meet the City's standards.
  • Undertake technical, risk management and condition investigations of civil assets to ensure conformance with appropriate asset management plans, policies and procedures.
  • Assist the Principal Engineer in ensuring that the City's Corporate Asset Management System (CAMS), asset inventories, associated data, reports and recommendations are based on sound engineering practices and procedures.
  • Prepare feasibility assessments, concept designs, budgeting and prioritization for assets within the teams responsibility.

    General Requirements:
     To be held accountable for working conditions under the control of the position and for detecting any unsafe or unhealthy conditions or behavior and to take immediate steps to investigate and rectify any risks to health, safety and welfare arising from any activity.
     For inspections of assets, assessing risks and subsequent actions to deal with defect remediation by engaging other teams of the City.
     To review engineering design, drawing, report in relation to roads, footpaths and structural assets by comparing against relevant Australian Standards, RMS Specifications, Austroads guide, etc. and preparing comments and recommendations.
     To assess proposals and recommend appropriate conditions for civil assets constructed by developers and others to ensure infrastructure meets the City's standards.
     To engage external consultants and contractors in the delivery of civil designs, investigations, construction and provision of services to meet City objectives and policies.
     Ensure the City's estimating rates, specifications, standards and pavement designs are based on sound and effective engineering practice.
     Assist in the evaluation, monitoring and condition assessment of a range of civil infrastructure assets including roads, structures including bridges, footpaths and kerb and gutter.
     Develop renewal works program based on asset condition.
     Develop proactive maintenance program for Civil Assets particularly Footpath and Kerb and Gutter.
     Investigate and report with recommendations on risk management, general engineering faults and complaints associated with the City's civil infrastructure to ensure conformance with appropriate asset management plans, policies and procedures.

    Technical Scope:
  • Comply with and keep abreast of any relevant legislation applicable to the performance of the duties of this position.
  • Assist the Principal Engineer to prepare and review annual capital works justification and the prioritization of works for renewal and improvement programs for the City's civil infrastructure assets.
  • Assist the Principal Engineer to define potential budget needs and works for future capital works program for civil infrastructure assets.
  • Deliver feasibility assessments, concept designs, estimates and prioritization of civil assets for asset renewal and for works relating to the implementation of the City's strategies. Monitor, measure and report on compliance to the achievement of these strategies.
  • Represent the City in public situations where required including community consultation workshops.
