Our Client is a NSW Government Agency who lead the development of safe, integrated and efficient transport systems for the people of NSW. An exciting opportunity has just presented itself for a suitably qualified and experienced Area Maintenance Manager based at their Wagga Wagga operations.

This position is for an immediate start for the right candidate for a length of 9 months, with the possibility of extension or permanency. On offer for this role is an attractive daily pay rate of $1000 per day + Superannuation, working 35 hours per week.

The primary focus of the Area Maintenance Manager is to manage the pavement and corridor infrastructure associated with State roads to maximise asset and safety whole of life performance within available funding constraints. The Area Maintenance Manager acts as the owner of the road and is the primary decision-maker for all projects under delegated authority.

The key accountabilities for the role are:

  • Act as the 'Client's Representative' by providing input on allocated projects on the State road network, as required.
  • Assist with the development of the forward maintenance and safety programs including specific projects for pavement and corridor infrastructure through the development of maintenance strategies as informed by analysis and interpretation of asset inventory, condition, history, treatment options, cost, road safety inspections and other relevant information.
  • Scope pavement and corridor maintenance projects and prepare project briefs for issue to regional development and delivery teams.
  • Ensure the maintenance programs can be delivered in accordance with safety standards and environmental management requirements. Ensure the delivery of maintenance programs by monitoring and reporting progress, including monitoring forecasting and budgeting, evaluating project completion performance and implementing corrective actions.
  • Provide high-level technical advice on the design and evaluation of pavements, safety solutions, wearing surfaces, earthworks, drainage and roadside issues for pavement and corridor projects including participation in project teams to ensure consistency and a whole of life approach to asset management is adopted across the Region.
  • Advise on the Agencies works approval function with regard to proposed activities by public authorities, land developers and private individuals wanting to work in the road corridor to ensure customer service requirements are met and the integrity of the road network is maintained.
  • Provide information and support for Ministerial and other inquiries, including responding to inquiries regarding maintenance and other issues raised by customers in a timely manner.
  • Investigation and report on road infrastructure conditions at fatal accident sites.

    The key knowledge and experience to excel in this role:
  • Proven ability to manage projects and programs in a competitive, dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated broad experience in managing the development and delivery of road maintenance, safety, rehabilitation, and construction projects with demonstrated knowledge and experience in project management and program management to deliver integrated project outcomes.
  • Broad knowledge and experience in the technical aspects of materials, equipment and techniques used in road safety, construction and maintenance, and capacity to undertake the design and economic evaluation of options for the management of flexible and rigid pavements.
  • Knowledge and experience in the management of quality, WHS, risk and environmental management.

    The essential criteria to be considered for this role:
  • A four-year civil engineering degree qualification from an Australian University or equivalent overseas qualification and/or relevant University qualifications and experience.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Australian motor vehicle drivers licence and be willing to work outside regular working hours and travel on occasion.
